I want to say thankyou to the people who run the website but especially to all you great Savage riders who post all this information.
I have been a Savage rider for three weeks now and thanks to all your help have done a full service (including torqueing down the head bolts) and have sorted the noisy vibration from the speedo and the headlight.
I havn't done anything about the backfiring. It doesn't do it very often and I like it. The bike is letting me know she is alive and has a heart and soul. When did you last hear a Gold Wing or an R1 backfire?
Only special bikes do it, so why stop it?
The bike was my Dads. He is nearly 80 years old (worlds oldest Savage rider?) and has given up biking. I tried to persuade him not to, but he said it was too dangerous. If he makes a mistake in his Nissan Micra he gets a few dents - the same mistake on the bike would be far worse. He bought the bike in '93 and has only done 4500 miles in the 9 years since. It is a unique Savage - it is EXACTLY the same as it was 9 years ago when it left Japan (not for long!!)
Happy riding,
Andy
